As promised, here is the second rifle covered in my 30-06 series. Hard to believe, but almost 100 years after the M1917 was built, the 30-06 Springfield cartridge is still one of the go to cartridges for hunting large game. If you hunt deer, sheep, elk, antelope, or moose, you can’t go wrong with a Tikka.
In a previous post, I mentioned that I was going to order a Tikka T3 Hunter(http://blog.lincolntactical.net/2011/07/22/hunting-season-is-right-around-the-corner/). Lincoln Tactical hooked me up and the minute I saw it, I knew I would love it.
The barrel is full floating and the stock is a beautiful walnut. I know the trend is to go with synthetic stocks but for me, there is just something about a wood stock.
The rifle comes with a really nice recoil pad on the but of the stock and I am really impressed with how comfortable it is when you bring it to your shoulder.
Tikka also has some nice safety features on this gun. First, the safety is easy to use and locks the bolt closed when on safe. It is easy to see the red dot indicating that the safety is on. The second safety feature I like is the red dot on the back of the bolt that is only visible when the hammer is cocked. With these two features, you can easily check the status of your rifle in the field.
For the optic, I chose a Nikon Buckmaster Scope in 3-9×40. I was originally thinking about a Leupold or Zeiss but the reviews I read on the Nikon told me to take a chance. Boy am I glad I did. This scope is incredible. In a future post I will write a review about this scope.
During its first outing to the range, It couldn’t have performed better. I started out at the 50 yard line and was pleased to find out that I was only shooting 4 inches low and 5 inches left of the bullseye. This made sighting in very easy and I was shooting quarter sized groups in the bullseye within a few minutes. At the hundred yard line, the groups were still as tight and after a few minor adjustments, I was zeroed for 100 yards.
I have to say that despite the light weight of the rifle, it is a dream to shoot. In all I shot 50 rounds at the 100 yard range, shooting groups the size of my fist from the standing position. This thing is a deer killer for sure.
I am planning a hunting trip to Texas this winter, and I know the Tikka will be up to the task. Order your next hunting rifle and scope from Lincoln Tactical!
